Title: Consumed…By Less

We’ve also put some questions together to further your thinking about the message. For those of you in community groups, they’re also good discussion starters.

72 men turned out at the last Men’s 3rd Saturday Breakfast to hear Charlie speak about the battle men face everyday and their critical role in spiritually protecting themselves and their families.

Every “3rd Saturday”, we meet at Champp’s to hear Charlie or one of the SouthBrook staff give us a “locker room” talk to recharge, encourage, challenge and prepare us for the days ahead.  Join us for our next breakfast (Saturday, December 20th 7-8:30 am) to hear Frank Crockett ask “Are you a Joy Creator or Joy Stealer”!  RSVP with Jeff Crews at jvcrews@woh.rr.com by December 17th. (Jeff will collect $10 per person at the door).

Champps is located at 7880 Washington Village Dr (just north of Rt 725, between Yankee & Lyons), Centerville, OH 45459. See you there!

If you’re the kind of person who says, “Tell me where I can be the most help,” then check out our November volunteer opportunities. If you’re ready to get involved and help serve SouthBrook’s mission to help people who struggle with faith live like Jesus Christ forever, or if you’d like more information about a particular opportunity, email us.

Title: Consumed…By Something

We’ve put together some questions for those of you in community groups or if you’d like to consider this weekend’s message in your personal study time.

Are You Consumed?

As part of our “Consumed” message series, we’re challenging “Brookers to think about their relationship with their finances. Are you someone who constantly worries about money? Are you always thinking about that next purchase? Does your happiness stem from what you own?

The fact is, the best way to weather tough financial times to live a life of generosity. During this series, we want you to take a first step toward trusting your finances to God. We’re putting forth three challenges that we hope you and your family will take us up on.

At the end of this post is a place to write your comments. Let us know how your family is doing with the three challenges.

Limit Consumption Challenge

We’ve come up with 30 different suggestions for saving money. As a family, put two or three or five into practice, whatever you think you can make happen. On the weekend of November 23-24, bring in Krogers gift cards (in $25 increments, please) equal to the amount your family saved. The cards will be donated to Good Neighbor House, the Life Enrichment Center, Gospel Mission and the Springboro Community Assistance Center.

Five Day Solidarity Challenge

Half the world lives on $2 a day. Their usual meal is 3/4 ounce (That’s about the size of a small chicken nugget) of oats, rice, beans and vegetables. Meat and fruit are a luxury. The week of November 17-21, in a show of solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world living in poverty, commit to eating one of the following meal options at least once per day. (Please check with your doctor before participating in this challenge.)

  • Plain oatmeal or Cream of Wheat
  • A tortilla, rice and beans
  • Rice with a small portion of fish or chicken or vegetables.

Use the money you save on groceries that week to purchase Kroger gift cards ($25 increments, please) and bring them with you the weekend of Nov. 23-24. They’ll be donated to the same four organizations previously mentioned.

Bag Hunger

Around the world 40,000 children die every day from malnutrition, starvation and hunger related diseases. The weekend of Nov. 22-23, we’re partnering with Kids Against Hunger to package 200,000 food packets that will be sent to Swaiziland, Africa, and distributed to AIDs orphans and other vulnerable children who spend their days in Carepoints. Carepoints are safe havens where the kids are fed, educated and allowed to be kids.

We need 750 volunteers and already 400 ‘Brookers have signed up. The signup boards for the four packaging sessions are in the atrium. Do your part to Bag Hunger!

Charlie will be our keynote speaker at the next Men’s “3rd Saturday” Breakfast on November 15th from 7 - 8:30 am at Champp’s!  Enjoy a great breakfast buffet and an inspiring topic.  Because we expect a large turnout, the RSVP deadline has been extened to Thursday, November 13th … please RSVP with Jeff Crews at jvcrews@woh.rr.com . (Jeff will collect $10 at the door).  Let’s have a great showing for Charlie!!!

Champps is located at 7880 Washington Village Dr (just north of Rt 725, between Yankee & Lyons), Centerville, OH 45459. See you there!
